Blame it on Meghan Markle but the previously outmoded tiara is back in a big way. So forget about politically-charged slogan tees: this season, it seems an ornate headpiece may be the biggest feminist style statement of all
In the U.S. alone, nearly 30 million viewers got up at the crack of dawn to watch the American born actress Meghan Markle become the Duchess of Sussex by wedding Britain’s Prince Harry at Windsor Chapel in May. The occasion was historically momentous in more ways than one, Markle being both a divorcee and the first woman of color to join the British monarchy. Prior to the marriage, Markle, a self-proclaimed feminist, was involved in several philanthropic endeavors related to women’s equality and has already ruffled more than a few feathers with her outspoken nature. Her most fervent critics have been vocal about her choice of husband, claiming such an ancient institution is at odds with Markle’s feminist mantra.
Despite the opposition, it appears the fashion world is on board, with no shortage of designers offering up their interpretations of the tiara.  The underlying message: every woman is a queen.
Our top picks:

Not too sweet and not too tough, Prada’s oversized satin headband with metal studs will go the distance, day or night, and is the perfect foil for a less-than-ideal hair day.

Alessandro Michele lets you live out your prom queen fantasies with Gucci’s classic, oversized rhinestone number. Beauty queen coiffure optional.

For those preferring to ease into the trend, Miu Miu’s dainty bow-topped headband offers the perfect gateway.

Punk at heart? Simone Rocha’s slightly undone amalgamations of pearl, crystals, and ribbon are the ideal counterpoint to one’s Doc Martens.

Calling all gallerinas, Rick Owens’ skyscraping, sculptural marvels are wearable art.
