GOOD JEANS

By July 15, 2017 No Comments

In case you’ve somehow missed the spring cleaning memo: it’s out with the old and in with the new…denim, that is! It’s time to get more creative with your true blues; after all…it’s in your genes! This season marks the revolution of an age-old fabric that has crept its way up the style ladder, now being transformed into trendy, nontraditional forms of apparel.

Though denim is certainly not new to the runway scene, it has now caught up to the high fashion standard. It is no longer considered casual – yes, that means you don’t have to save them for your “casual Friday” at the office! Even when shredded and tie-dyed, this material retains its classic appeal and aesthetic: chic yet effortless, whilst also being the perfect canvas for sophisticated and eye-catching patterns. The sky is the limit to endless interpretations. From street style to high style, you cannot go wrong. Play up proportions for a more dramatic look – loose and square shapes are currently dominating the scene – or stick with sleek and skinny for a classic yet sexy aura.

One of the freshest styles worth noting is Pringle of Scotland and Antonio Marras’ creative flair of patchwork denim, resulting in a mash-up of dressy and messy in unconventional ways we don’t typically see. This look is the ultimate chameleon: you can channel your inner retro vibe with some sneakers or flip on the sultry vibe with a fabulous pair of heels. Stella McCartney, A Detacher, Vanessa Seward put a femme fatale spin on the classic jumpsuit; make way for the new fashionista infusing the work force aesthetic with street style. Andrew GN, Carolina Herrera, Creatures of the Wild, and Jasper Conran took denim to a new level by adding a touch of “New Gen” feminism to 60s era feminine silhouettes, showing how the new age woman can be industrious while still outlining her womanly figure. DIY-inspired denim is also back on the scene; Dsquared put an interesting twist on classic jean styles creating distressed bleached looks with a sexy touch of satins and floral pumps. Saint Laurent’s proved that tom-boy chic can be seductive and comfortable, through the pairing of light-washed boyfriend jeans with leather ensembles. Finally, Philosophy proved that innovation means thinking outside of the box, showing us that the coolest trendsetters rock frayed hems and denim high heels.

So…for those of you looking to refresh your wardrobe, or feeling blue about your current old blues: grab a pair of scissors or bleach and channel your inner fashion designer.
